What do the Blue Sky Endurance guides cover?
Running shoe fitting, foot comfort and foot pain, local Charleston and Mount Pleasant races, and running, triathlon and cycling gear. The guides are written by owner Catherine Hollister.
Do I need an appointment for a shoe fitting at Blue Sky Endurance?
No. Shoe fittings include a free measurement and need no appointment. Just stop by one of our Mount Pleasant stores.
What should I bring to a running shoe fitting?
Bring your current running shoes, the socks you usually train in and any inserts or orthotics you wear. It also helps to know your weekly mileage and your next goal race.
How often should I replace my running shoes?
Most running shoes last roughly 300 to 500 miles, depending on your weight, stride and the shoe’s foam. New aches in your shins or knees, or a midsole that looks creased and flat, are signs it’s time for a new pair.
How many pairs of running shoes should I rotate?
Most serious runners rotate two or three pairs, such as a daily trainer for easy miles, a faster shoe for workouts and races, and sometimes a long-distance shoe.
Should I wear carbon-plated racing shoes for every run?
No. Save plated racers for workouts, tempo runs and races. Wearing them every day wears out the foam early and can stress your calves.
Should I go up a size in marathon or ultra shoes?
Sometimes. Feet swell over long efforts, so our staff may suggest going up half a size, with a roomier toe box and a secure heel.
What is the difference between cross-country spikes and track spikes?
Cross-country spikes have a flexible plate, some heel cushion and grippy outsoles for grass, dirt and hills. Sprint spikes use a stiff, aggressive plate, and distance track spikes fall in between for the 800 through the 3200.
What should I wear to run in Charleston humidity?
Choose technical, moisture-wicking fabrics over cotton, shorts with a liner and zip pocket, a light-colored hat or visor, reflective trim for early or late runs, and merino or synthetic socks to cut down on blisters.
Can Blue Sky Endurance help if I have foot pain or hard-to-fit feet?
Yes. The Foot Store, part of Blue Sky Endurance since 2025, has a certified pedorthist who works with customers who have foot pain or hard-to-fit feet, including runners with plantar fascia pain, bunions or a wide forefoot.
Where can I find upcoming races in Charleston and Mount Pleasant?
Our guides include seasonal 5K and 10K race roundups, and the Race local page lists the races Blue Sky Endurance hosts and sponsors.
Who writes the Blue Sky Endurance guides?
Catherine Hollister, owner of Blue Sky Endurance and The Foot Store.
